I have a love/hate relationship with my intuition. I love when I trust it. I hate when I don't.
Why? Because it's always right. I'm telling you, take any situation, any topic - my intuition has an opinion. And, it's a way better one than what my ego can come up with. The difference? My intuition is there to support me, help me get clear, make decisions easier, see a larger perspective, and discover the underlying dynamics of a situation aka "what's really going on". Isn't that what you want a best friend to do?
What about the ego? She's the wild and crazy friend, talking you into and out of drama. Getting you to stay in situations where you are comfortably uncomfortable, date the trouble maker, be the co-dependent. With her, there's some version of "Yes, I rock" or "Dang, I suck" applied to yourself, others, and the experiences you find yourself in. Each serves its purpose and there's a place for it all. I'm just looking to create a little more balance, to tilt the wheel in the direction of clarity instead of confusion.
You don't need any convincing though. That intuition of yours is the most valuable compass you have.
We all have different terms for it - gut feeling, inner knowing, hunch, a sense. I'm sure you've said or heard these phrases before too - "I just had a feeling," "It felt right, "Everything just lined up when I went in that direction," or conversely, "I knew I should have/shouldn't have..."
That's right. You did know. Did you listen? It's funny how obvious an answer can be, yet we often talk ourselves out of it. Why?
This is just one of many aspects of intuition that I'll be writing over the next few weeks. Some future postings include:
From cluttered to clear
We are bombarded with information and sensory input that can easily put you into a tailspin. Our external (work, relationships, media) and internal (thoughts, feelings) worlds often lead to more confusion rather than clarity. Being able to access your intuition in any given moment is the key to making the best choice for yourself regardless of the circumstances.
Developing your intuition
On some level, you know your intuition works. Yet, now you want to know how to access it more easily, have it work in a variety of situations, and above all, trust that it is leading you in the right direction. For a few hints and tips to get started right now, visit my page on developing your intuition.
Intuition: How it works
Intuition works differently depending on who you are and how you learn. You can use it to make decisions about the mundane (what to eat) to the more significant (where to move). You'll begin to understand why your intuition is your most valuable compass. Resources will be included.
Being a professional intuitive
How in the world did this end up being part of my career path? I'll share some stories, the dreaded party trick question, and more. For those wanting a taste of my story ahead of time, scroll halfway down this page. For those interested in what it would be like to get a reading with me,
I've got a handy dandy pdf to send your way if you contact me with your
email.
That's a start. Tell me:
What else would you like to learn about intuition? What would be helpful to know in your daily life?

Great post, Vanessa. We definitely have a lot in common.
In my life, I call it intuition or higher self or God. In my writing, I call it my muse. In both cases, as with you, it's *always* right (damn it!).
I'm pleased to say that I'm way better than I used to be at surrendering more and resisting less, at trusting more and doubting less. But, some days....!
Looking forward to your upcoming posts.

I believe that intuition is a trait that is learned through an emotional outreach from ones self in reading into others. Often intuition is reactive vs. proactive....in my opinion it takes a "sense" of identifying to cultivate intuition before it becomes advantageous. Identify, act, eventually becoming habit. A very wonderful skill to have if understood. Nice post!

You are so right about loving my intuition when I follow it and hating it when I don't. Too many times- out of the desire to please people or to not want to cause a fuss I will ignore that strong "gut" feeling that I have and I ALWAYS regret it. Like Mark David I intuition comes from God.

Intuition is everything. I usually follow mine, but every time I don't, it leads to a "DOH!" moment. Why did I do that??? :-)

I love your sites and the way they interlink the various aspects of your work and offerings. I'm just starting to offer intuitive sessions myself. Also trying to separate the ego aspect from my intuition in my own life choices. I find meditation is the key to clarity, just need to do it more.

Thanks Kala! Meditation is such a great help. I find movement to be a great ego clutter clearer too.
