Ready for this coach to tell you to set a goal and create a plan? Not today.
Structure, organization, and disciplined action all have a place in life. Many coaches champion this as the way to move your life forward. I have a different opinion.
For as long as I can remember, I pushed to find my purpose. I always knew I had one and was absolutely determined to figure out what it was. Over & over I'd get hints, a brief respite of "you may have found it," only to discover (usually within 3-5 days) that this, again, was not it. Utterly frustrated, impatient, and convinced that if I had a plan and took yet another personality test, the answer would show up. Since this got me a whole lot of nothing, besides suffering, it was time for a different approach.
Instead, I listened. Openly, without response or resistance.
When I did, I found that the direction was clear, for that moment. Not only did it help me to see all the goodness that was in my experience right now, it also helped me release the death grip, control freak handle on the future. This whole time, I was being led in a particular direction. I didn't have to push or resist or worry about finding it. My purpose and path is something I've always been in the middle of. I was never stuck, not on it, or not connected to it. How often did I tell myself that I was those things? Too many times!
To you, and me, I say this:
- If you don't know, ask. The answer comes.
- It's working out and always is, every aspect of life.
- The action you take, planned or not, is leading you in the direction your spirit wants to go.
- See the point and purpose of your life as getting to experience being alive. We are all rich in this. When you stop making yourself, others, or your experience "wrong," you get a whole lot more enjoyment out of this adventure!
