Have you ever had those days where you can't help but move at a sluggish pace? Where your preferred mode of being includes a couch, book, and nap. Or a cold drink and a tropical island. I'll take the drink after my nap, on the island with my book, resting on the couch, thank you very much.
What do you do when that's not an option? You've got things to do, right? Appointments and work and errands. Here's a few tips for going slow in the midst of a fast paced life.
Drink water
It's energizing. It flushes out toxins built up by stress. It helps the cells and systems in your body function optimally. It sets the stage to give you what you need to get through the day, where your bed awaits. Often, people reach for caffeine instead via soda, coffee, or candy. STOP. That'll take you to crash and burn faster than you realize. Plus it'll throw your nervous system in a tizzy and create a feeling of perpetual stress. No fun. If you like fun and feeling good - now and in the future - drink water!
"I've got a song in my head"
This is a game I play with my husband. Forewarning, it can be used for good or evil purposes. Good = Michael Franti's Yell Fire. Evil = "I wanna rock n roll all night and party every day" or anything by Bob Dylan. Giving your mind something different to focus on besides your sleepiness or resistance to doing anything that takes energy is a great distraction. It gives you an entertaining and needed boost.
Move
Stretch up. Over. Sideways. And back. Moving your body moves that sluggish energy. Not having enough time to move is a lie. You deserve better! There's always enough time to stand up, turn around, walk to the restroom. Go outside for a breath of fresh air. Do it now.
Back to my tropical island. Papaya smoothie anyone?
