Last week I promised to write a post about how to use your intuition with food. It's become so second nature to me that I forget not everyone uses their intuition in this way. Remember too, it's never a question of whether you have intuition - we all do, it comes with the package. It's always a matter of using what you got, building up that intuitive muscle. Onward with the how to's...
1) Ask
Pose this question to yourself, "What would be the healthiest choice for me, right now?" There are times when what's best for us serves our emotional nourishment rather than our nutritional needs. As long as it using food doesn't become a habit or a crutch, I say it's OK. If you do find yourself having frequent cravings, check this cravings chart to see what your body is wanting.
When you ask, you will get an answer. This is where step 2 comes into play.
2) Pay Attention
Since we all have different ways of receiving information and accessing answers, it's important to pay attention to how it shows up for us. Some hear while others see images. Do you get an internal auditory answer when you ask the question? Try it now. What about seeing? A visual of a cake or big salad may show up in your minds eye.
If you don't feel like you're getting a clear answer, notice if you
- have a knowing or sense of what to eat
- see light around the food (whether actual food or an item listed on a menu)
- the words on a menu stand out or seem bigger, or conversely, you're looking at an item and you can't make out what it says (that's actually your intuition making it so you can't read it/choose it)
All of the above are signs pointing to the best food choice for you in that moment. You could also try muscle testing. Check out Mirit's site and info about this method. Your body truly is the gateway for knowing what's best for you. It speaks to you through your intuition. Have a go at some of these suggestions and let me know how it goes.
