Last weekend, good friends visited and brought with them a 13 year old (family member) from Switzerland. She only spoke French. Which was Ok, and kind of fun, especially if her Dad was around to translate. Enter Sunday morning, no Dad, and a hungry teenager.
I proceeded to show her everything in my fridge. I'd hold it up, point to the item, smile, and nod. Yogurt? No. Leftover pizza (Dad's choice, not mine)? No. Salad? No. Eggs? Yes!
Now what? I made gestures indicating how it could be cooked. That went nowhere fast. How do you imitate a hard boiled egg? Scrambled? Over easy? The girl just looked utterly confused. Then the a-ha moment hit - Google images! Thank you Internet.
